A Modern Interpretation of a 1950's Design Classic
The original Pira shelf, born in 1954, was as contradictory as the visionary who conceived it. Olle Pira (1927-2018) was a master cabinet-maker steeped in tradition, handcrafting furniture from cherry, maple, and aged oak using age-old techniques. Yet, his talents led him to the prestigious Konstfack school of art, craft, and design – a breeding ground for groundbreaking concepts ahead of their time.
A Journey of Innovation
Olle Pira's innovative spirit pushed the boundaries of design. He achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Swede to claim a gold medal at the Triennale in Milan in 1952. His unique ability to blend the artisan's touch with modern aesthetics created furniture that transcended generations.
A Philosophy for Modern Living
"A SHELF SHOULD ENHANCE SPACES AND ABOVE ALL IT SHOULD STORE POSSESSIONS. A PERSONAL COMPANION TO HUMAN NATURE." - Anna von Schewen
Pira's philosophy, embodied by renowned designer Anna von Schewen, revolves around enhancing living spaces while preserving the essence of our possessions. Pira's shelves are not just pieces of furniture; they are companions to our daily lives.
We invite you to experience Pira's modern interpretation of a 1950's design classic, now available at Bob and Friends. It's a union of tradition and innovation, a celebration of contradictions that make life beautifully complex.
